Staff learning and development is important at RNS so that we are able to provide a quality service which meets the needs of our clients with knowledgeable and skilled staff. We have a designated training manager.
We have a comprehensive three-months Induction programme for new staff, based on the Care Certificate and covering mandatory training. New staff shadow and work with experienced staff, before working on their own. Some training also requires practical observation before new staff are deemed competent to work alone, such as medication and moving and handling.
All staff receive annual refresher training on mandatory subjects including medication, safeguarding, infection prevention and control, health and safety and fire safety.
RNS is an accredited centre for First Aid, and we therefore train all staff to the required level in basic life support and first aid.
We are able to provide specialist training to meet specific client needs and this includes dementia awareness, health conditions, learning disability, PEG feeding and palliative care.
We encourage staff to undertake Care qualifications at Levels 2, 3 and where appropriate Level 4. We help to support staff to learn and develop in whatever way they chose.
